There is a fabulous new documentary movie that was just released last week. It discusses Religion & Politics in America. Article VI in the U.S. Constitution says: ..."no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States." I think it was likely inspired by this election & all of the religious discussion going on with Romney & Huckabee. In the movie, they interview religious leaders of different denominations like Lutheran, Hindu, Islam, Baptist, etc., professors of Religious studies and many other people. There are also clips from Pres. Kennedy and his speech on being Catholic. It is a fascinating film that really got me thinking. I think it's an important film for Americans of all faiths to watch. I have never really felt discriminated against because of my religion. Even growing up in Florida where there are very few LDS people, I never felt it. During this election I have heard so many comments that have really surprised me. I did not realize how much discrimination & bias there really is in this country. I have heard people say-flat out-that they would never vote for Mitt Romney because he is Mormon, even if they feel he has good ideas & policies. That is completely shocking to me. I have never thought of someone as less of a person because of the religion he faithfully practices. Just because it is a religion that has differing beliefs from yours, that does not make them a lesser person. You know, it is interesting that when people make derrogatory comments about Jews or Muslims, for instance, people jump to defend them. It seems, though, that Mormons are fair game. Think about it.

its sad to think about how closed minded people are. you like his policies, but won't vote just based on his religion??? especially since mitt doesn't even seem to be the guy throwing his religion around right now. its everyone else!
Truthfully I've found that Muslims get about as much if not more flack than Mormons. That said you're absolutely right that there's a large population that will never vote for a Mormon candidate and this is just sad. This of course is the same group that thinks that Harry Potter teaches witchcraft so I have a hard time taking them seriously.
