My First Race

I have always secretly envied runners. But, I was also secretly a little afraid of doing it. See, I've had this fear of athletic stuff since as long as I can remember. Not so sure where this started, but it has always been there. Since I became an adult I decided it was time to get over some of my silly fears and just take charge & do what I wanted to do.

Well, this summer I started running. I set a goal of running a 5k race. I just wanted to run the whole thing. I was a little nervous thinking that I couldn't do it. Rich started running with me in the evenings. (A Major benefit of living with my parents. We can put the kids to bed & go do stuff. LOVE IT!) He really pushed me & helped me have more confidence in my running. I also love having something to do together. We don't see too much of each other these days.

So, this past Saturday was my race. It was the American Fork Steel Days race. I ran the whole thing. There was not once that I felt a need to stop running. (Well, after the big hill in the middle I got a cramp, but I was not stopping for anything!) I have to say I am proud of myself. We finished in the middle of the group. There were about 500 people & we were # 226-227. Not too bad. I must say, it felt good when just after the first mile people were stopping to walk & I ran past them.

After the race, Rich informed me that we will be running 4 miles this week. We'll see how that goes.

Congrats Karyn. I think that's awesome. I had the thought to run a 5K in May, but I never got around to it. You'll be my inspiration to do it at some point.

Way to go! I admire runners as well, but I just can't do it without a sideache and knee ache.
