Alphabet Play Mat (Crafty Me -part 2)

(For some reason, no matter what I did, all the pictures went vertically)

This fall, my sister, Misha & I are running a preschool at her house. Both of our boys are preschool age this year so we decided to do it for them. Including our 2 boys & my other nephew, Luke, (Mara's son) we have 13 kids. It's going to be in the basement at Misha's house. We are pretty excited about it & have been meeting throughout the summer to plan & get things ready. I have been making an alphabet mat for it. I finished it today & I'm pretty excited about how cute it turned out.

Here are some pictures & instructions if you want to make your own.

I used a white twin flat sheet as the base of it all. To divide the rows I used a few spools of ribbon- 4 rows going horizantally and 7 rows going vertically. There were 2 extra spots that I put a heart & a star in to fill up the squares.

For the letters I found some cute bright colored fabrics. I found some letter patterns in a preschool book I have & printed copies of them. I cut the letters out with pinking shears (gives the zig-zag edge) so I didn't have to turn them under. It helps prevent the fabric from fraying. I sewed the letters on with a zig-zag stitch.

My kids love it. Every time I spread it out to work on it they both came running over to play on it. I think it will provide lots of fun times for the kids.

Look how crafty you are! That is so cute! I attempted a quiet book at the beginning of the year, and this looks a WHOLE lot easier than what I did. Maybe I'll do something like that for Christmas? AWESOME!

How fun. I recently swore off sewing projects, but this is making me rethink my hastiness.
