I got this fun new little toy. Well, my most awesome husband came home with it the other day for me. He got it just in time, too. I was having a low-motivation week when it came to running. This was just what I needed to boost my motivation. Nike + is a neat little toy that you connect with your i-pod as you run or walk. It has a sensor thing that you attach to your shoe & it tracks distance, time & miles/minute, and calories burned. It is all synced through your i-pod so that you click a button & it tells you all these things. It'll also sync to their website tracking your goals. It's a really fun toy. Rich has had one for a while & I always thought it was really neat.
I have been running this trail along the canal that goes up into the mountain. It is so beautiful & such a refreshing way to start my day. I've been setting mental goal points & pushing myself to run farther & longer, but I had no idea how far I was running. I figured 2-3 miles. I was excited when I traked my run yesterday & saw I have consistently been running 4 miles. It made me realize I can run lots farther than I thought I could.

I do have a question though, for all of my fellow lady runners. What do you wear? I need help in the running apparel dept. I am getting blisters every time I run, I need to find some kind of underwear that doesn't ride up, and any other good tips for what you love to wear when you run.

Rich can buy me a toy too?!! Actually, I have my eye set on a Garmin 305 Forerunner. I REALLY want one, but have to save up the $160 to get it. Dang. Anyway, glad you're getting your mojo back.
As far as running apparel goes, I wear balega enduro socks and they are wonderful. Much better than regular *shudder* cotton socks. Are your shoes old? If you get blisters every time you run, you might want to rethink the shoe. I changed to Asics a few months ago and my feet are thanking me now. Anyway, just a thought. As far as underwear that doesn't ride, let me know when you find a pair. I'm still wearing my Hanes granny panties and have yet to buy something else. (Part of it is when I have extra cash, I don't want to buy panties. No fun! I would rather buy a new dri-fit shirt or visor, etc.
So, we definitely need to do a race together sometime. 2010... let's pick one!
yeah! I want that someday!
1. replace your shoes according to mileage (so it's different for everyone). Money being no object I would have two shoes that you switch each day/week and go back and forth between the two. Replace them about every 400 miles. That number is different for different people, but it's a good average. I replace mine once a year and I run about 15 miles a week (lame i know).
2. socks are diff for diff people too. I nEED breathable socks, so I just get the cheap THIN ones at target
3. i change my shirt according to the season, but I wear tank tops mostly or FITTED short sleeve shirts b/c I can't have my shirt hang and get loose...i get WAY sweaty, plus I just replace my hanes (mens) tanks and v-neck tshirts every year and it's no big deal b/c their cheap
4. pants....I am pretty religious with my pants. I have LOVED for the past 5 years the nike yoga capri. It looks like they don't sell them online anymore, but I just get hot around my feet so I don't like pants around my ankles. But if you're running outside, you might like the pant version. There's no chaffing and the waste isn't super tight.
Anyway, I'm no pro by any means, but I am VERY FINICKY about what I wear when I run b/c I KNOW it affects how I run. I HAVE to be comfortable. Good luck!
Well you didn't say where you got your blisters! If you are getting them on your feet your shoes are either old or too small. You need to get a half size bigger and wear socks that are two layered- they are two very thin layers so that they rub against eachother and not you. There is a running store in orem that I got them at. Also, if you are getting blisters in another place- where I got them, you need a new bra- a seamless one. As for underwear- you have to give it up- literally. Just get the shorts that have them in it and you will never have that problem again. If you are wearing something tight, sorry girl, go without! You have to be comfy when you run or else it really isn't fun. If you have any other questions, let me know.
I go commando when I work out. Seriously, it's so much better...just make sure you aren't airing yourself to the whole world. If I'm in a gym and I'm wearing loose shorts, I get some spandex shorts to wear underneath. It's worked pretty well for me.
we're buying the nike chip for christmas, in september. ha. it'll still get wrapped and put under the tree, but i think i need to get it sooner rather than later & put it to use! as soon as i get paid again :) i hope it is cool. i'm not a runner though, i just need to be a walker.
I get all my running clothes at Marshalls/TJ Maxx. I run yearround, and in NYC that means COLD in the winter- they have fantastic Nike stuff that's like $100 normally, and I can get it for $25. I like to wear those spandex type capri pants b/c they don't swish around when I'm running. With a good wick-away sweat shirt, too. I have asics shoes which have been totally awesome for me (and my podiatrist friend recommends them).
If you look good, you feel good! :)
(ps- I totally want that toy!)
Wish we could have seen you while we were in Utah.
